Subnautica Review

Updated: Jan 16, 2021

This game is a genuinely unique experience. Being stranded in the middle of the ocean is almost guaranteed death, but add on top of that an unknown alien planet and fun future science, you'll get Subnautica.

This game is absolutely gorgeous. The wonderful use of matte primary colors makes the ocean vibrant and inviting. I can almost feel the warmth of the sun on my skin.

However, as I ventured further out into the depths of the world, the color correction turned sinister. Large plants glowing ghostly white reached high into the photosphere. Deep bellowings echoed throughout the inky void. Something is coming.

From personal experience this game was a blast to play. I have read online many people found this game too scary to play. I did not find it to be scary for me tonally but every once in a while I got jumpscared by a giant monster (it's not scripted I just didn't notice it). I would recommend this game to marine biologists and anyone that loves the ocean.
